o, the oprah magazine

Since I can't keep a secret to save my life, it took all my willpower and some extra not to talk about this months ago and now I'm so excited to finally share it!

This week I am so honored to be featured in the August issue of O, the Oprah Magazine. You can find me on page 33 (right after Oprah's letter to readers! Whoa!)

:) Hello, Oprah! :)

Mike and I rushed out to Cambridge on Friday morning to pick up a copy (or three) and then had a celebratory breakfast at my favorite diner. I think that was the last sit-down meal I've had since then, because the response has been overwhelming. It seems I'm not the only one with a love of wanderlust and possibility.

Special thanks to Oprah writer Rachel Bertsche, who took the crazy jumble of stories and details from our interviews and created an article that perfectly captures the wanderlust spirit of my art and artistic mission. From our interview I found Rachel's first book, MWF Seeking BFF, which is an equal parts hilarious and sweet exploration of friendship that I loved and totally recommend reading this summer (preferably alongside a female friend because you will want to read bits out loud and laugh over how they are so true. And you won't get that response from a boyfriend. Trust me, I tried. "What's a frenemy?" Ugh, dudes.)

Thanks so much to everyone who has sent sweet comments my way and to those of you who have found your way to my blog because of O Magazine! I look forward to making awesome art for you for as long as I can.

  1. So excited for you, Mae! You totally deserve it with your striving to continue to create original and meaningful works of art in this copy-cat world these days. I applaud you! How did you get contacted for this? Did they just come across you on Etsy? :)

  11. I'm a Californian transplanted to the midwest, so your sea themed art is exactly what I've been looking for to finish off a redecorating project that reminds me of home and the ocean! And it includes some of my favorite poetry! Thanks to Oprah for that article at just the right time and to you for your inspiration. The hard part is choosing...

  12. I just got my O Magazine in the mail today ( live in DK) and I was so happy after reading the piece about you. Normally my husband and I have a very hard time findinf anything to hang on our walls that we like, but I jumped up and ran to the livingroom and showed him the pics in your article and we both like them so much that we're going to buy one for our anniversary later this year!

You deserve to be in O! The vibe I get from the pictures of your pictures are so wonderfully dreamy :-)

  14. oh Mae... i'm only now catching up with blogs and i am BEYOND THRILLED to read this post.
So so happy for you... your paintings not only transport me, but your kind heart shines through your collage and writing and paint splatters. Don't ask me how, it just does. This was obvious to Oprah and her staff as well. :-)
HUGE hugs to you from the east coast of Canada. Wishing you nothing but the best. xox
