here in new england it has been raining like crazy for the past two days. it wasn't much fun to drive around in, but it was nice waking up this morning to overcast skies and starting my day with a cup of coffee, lazily shuffling around figuring out what i needed to do. pack and ship prints, clean studio, set up inspiration board... drink more coffee. i ran across the work of gregory thielker on of paper and things and it pretty much captured the mood of today:
did you think these were photographs? because they are actually oil paintings! thielker is a hyperrealist who in my opinion has pretty much perfected the art of expressing the melancholy of a drizzly grey day from the view of a driver on the way from point a to point b, a mundane errand, or sitting in a parked car on a stormy night. while they mostly remind me of growing up in seattle, he's done a few pieces in the area i live now, including some from the mass pike and route 2. perfect imagery for this rainy almost-winter day.
Oh my goodness!! I really had to sit and look at those for a few minutes, and they STILL just look like photos to me! Incredibly impressive - great find.
ReplyDeleteI also love overcast days. There's something peaceful and quiet about them. Plus, it's always fun to bundle up warm.
