I am so blown away by and appreciative of the response to my last post about art theft. Before posting it, I had written several long posts about exactly what happened, how I felt, why it was totally lame, ethics of art/copyright/etc etc. but then realized that I'd probably be preaching to the choir here. From the sweet comments and emails I got, that was true! Most people who read artists' blogs are either artists themselves or genuine art lovers who already understand what is and isn't okay to do with someone else's creations... who understand that karma is real, and that a lot of art isn't just what it looks like but the love that goes into making and sharing it - and that goodness gets lost when it is stolen, copied or otherwise misused.
(
And, if you're not sure, Kelly Rae Roberts' article here is a great round-up of what is and isn't okay, and the difference between inspiration and imitation. The specifics of sharing their art varies by artist, but her advice for us "to be good stewards of the creative life" and respectful of each other is spot on with how I feel about sharing my art.)
So, thank you. Thank you!
Before all this happened I made a small, rustic mounted print of my new painting "The Woods" I'd like to give away.
"The Woods" is printed on archival Red River metallic photo paper, matted on burlap and mounted on a thick 8"x10" panel, titled and signed on the back. It has a keyhole hanger on the back or will stand on its own.

ReplyDeleteHi Mae,
ReplyDeleteI am making a comment even though I can't pin your lovely art work. (I refuse to get involved in Pinterest because of all the art being "stolen" on the site --e.g. people pinning yet not giving credit to the artist.) I love your work and hope you will throw my name into the drawing regardless. Thanks! bkisrael@gmail.com.

ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw you post this print, I decided that one of my future children's rooms would be inspired by/centered around it. Green has always been my favorite color, and I love everything about it. It's whimsical and poetic, and exactly the kind of room I'd want one of my kids to grow up in. :)
Thanks for all you do!
