a day at the sowa open market

Despite being a bit overwhelmed with work since my Oprah feature, I got a chance to slip away for an afternoon of vintage and handmade shopping at the SoWa Open Market with Kristen last week. There was so much to see!

SoWa is just down the street from me in Boston's vibrant, artsy South End, and is packed with local artisans, crafters, vintage finds, a farmers' market and Boston's unique food trucks every Sunday of the summer. This weekend was scorching hot so we cooled down with rhubarb mint lemonade and snacked on a brie, grilled peach & pecan sandwich from the Roxy's Gourmet Grilled Cheese truck. It was so good I died just a little inside. And it came from a truck! Swoon.

My favorite... gorgeous ceramics by New Moon Studio. I came across Hilal's work first on Etsy, then happened to recognize it on the SoWa Facebook page and made sure to find her booth on Sunday. She didn't have any mugs left this time so I'll just have to go back next weekend to look again. (Tough, but someone has to collect every handmade mug in the world, right?)

The Haberdash Mobile Vintage is vintage clothes, shoes and accessories in a teeny vintage trailer. 

I know... I can barely stand the awesomeness either.

Recycled, refreshed vintage furniture and accessories by Painted Pretty. I almost went home with one of those turquoise mirrors... something tells me I'll be back for it.

Intricate, rustic pottery by Wendy Jackson. I overheard a conversation about her discovery of ceramics and artistic process and was so inspired.

The delicate jewelry of Scrambled Studio. That little lotus on the right went home with me :)

I also went home with a stack of vintage nautical maps and postcards to use in artwork, as well as a big, beautiful bunch of local lilies and sunflowers to cheer up my studio (and detract from the 34 boxes of various packing materials that arrived last week and had nowhere to go but out living room. Woof.)
